Templeton is the tetartagonist of Charlotte's Web. He was a rat who helped Charlotte save Wilbur from death even though he didn't particularly care for Wilbur's life. He met Wilbur who took an interest in Templeton.

Throughout the film, Templeton is greatly disliked by the other farm animals except Wilbur, though he reluctantly supported Charlotte in finding words for her web. Later when Charlotte is near death, Wilbur orders Templeton to help him get Charlotte's egg sac. When he is slow to comply, Wilbur insults him by accusing him of never thinking of anyone but himself. Templeton is greatly offended by this, feeling that his previous actions had gone against him as well in a sense he had been the only victim in his actions in this unappreciated and expresses an unfulfilled desire for some love. Wilbur attempts to make amends by offering Templeton first dibs on his slop for the rest of his life if he gets the egg sac, for which Templeton immediately accepts. As Templeton retrieves the egg sac and Charlotte thanks him for all of his help, Templeton gives Charlotte a sad look and nods as if to say you’re welcome. He and Wilbur then return to the barn just before Charlotte dies. Upon their return to the barn and the other animals find out what happened, Templeton joins Wilbur and the other animals as they bow their heads and mourn Charlotte. During the winter, Templeton is shown helping the other farm animals look after Charlotte's egg sac. Templeton appears one final time as Charlotte's children are born having gained a lot of weight and returned to his self-centered ways. He makes clear Charlotte's three children Joy, Aranea, and Nellie that he has no intention of collecting words for them to write, but he does try to give them some inspiration by suggesting they write "Some Rat".

In the 1973 cartoon movie, Templeton is voiced by the late actor Paul Lynde, in the 2003 sequel, he is voiced by Charlie Adler, and in the 2006 live action movie, he is voiced by Steve Buscemi.
